Frequently asked questions

I can't hear anything.

Sleep Sounds plays through the media audio channel, so it does play with the ring/silent switch on and mixes with other apps' audio. If you hear nothing, press the volume-up button while a sound is playing to raise the media volume, check that the sound's own volume slider is not at zero, and check that the master volume in the player is up. With AirPods or Bluetooth speakers connected, the audio goes to that device. If another app is playing at the same time, Sleep Sounds will mix with it rather than replace it - pause the other app if it is too loud.

The sounds stop when I lock my phone or switch apps.

Sleep Sounds is built to keep playing in the background with the screen locked, and shows controls on the Lock Screen. If playback stops, check that Low Power Mode is off (iOS Settings → Battery) and that Background App Refresh is allowed for Sleep Sounds. Starting playback from another audio app (Music, a podcast, a video) will pause Sleep Sounds, as iOS gives the newer app the audio output - just tap play on the Lock Screen to resume. Force-quitting the App from the app switcher stops playback.

Will the alarm ring reliably?

The alarm works best when the App is still running in the background at wake-up time: leave a mix playing (or paused) and simply lock your phone. The App will fade your mix out over two minutes while the alarm sound fades in, and it also schedules a local notification as a fallback in case iOS stops the App overnight. For that fallback to work, allow notifications for Sleep Sounds and make sure a Focus or Sleep Focus mode is not silencing it. Because iOS can terminate any background app when memory or battery is low, please do not rely on Sleep Sounds as your only alarm on mornings that matter - keep an iOS Clock alarm set as well.

How do I cancel my subscription or free trial?

Subscriptions are managed by Apple, not inside the App. Open iOS Settings → your name → Subscriptions, choose Sleep Sounds and tap Cancel Subscription. To avoid being charged after the 3-day free trial, cancel at least 24 hours before the trial ends. You keep Premium until the end of the current period. Deleting the App does not cancel the subscription. Apple's step-by-step guide: support.apple.com/HT202039.

How do I restore my purchase on a new device?

Make sure the device is signed in with the same Apple ID you used to buy Premium, then go to Settings → Premium → Restore Purchases (the button is also on the Premium screen). Subscriptions and the lifetime purchase are both restored this way. If nothing is restored, check your Apple purchase history to confirm which Apple ID the purchase belongs to.

How do I get a refund?

Because Apple processes every payment, refunds are also handled by Apple. Go to reportaproblem.apple.com, sign in with your Apple ID, find the Sleep Sounds purchase and choose "Request a refund". We are not able to issue refunds ourselves.

Where are my recordings stored, and how do I delete them?

Recordings you make with the microphone are saved only on your iPhone, inside the App's private storage - they are never uploaded anywhere and we cannot see them. They appear in the My Sounds section of the Sounds tab. To delete one, long-press it (or swipe it) and choose Delete; any mix that used it will simply play without it. Uninstalling the App deletes all recordings. Recordings are limited to 60 seconds and loop seamlessly inside a mix.

The widget shows nothing.

The Home Screen widget shows your favourite mixes, so it stays empty until you favourite at least one. Open the Mixes tab and tap the heart on a preset or on one of your own mixes; the widget updates a moment later. If it still looks stale, remove the widget and add it again, or restart your iPhone - iOS occasionally throttles widget refreshes.

Why does the app ask for microphone access?

Only for the Record feature, and only when you tap Record. The App never listens in the background. You can decline the permission and everything else keeps working; change your mind later in iOS Settings → Privacy & Security → Microphone.

What does Premium include?

The free version includes White Noise, Brown Noise, Rain, Ocean Waves, Box Fan and Fireplace with up to two sounds playing at once, plus every preset, the sleep timer, breathing exercises, the sleep log and the widget. Premium unlocks all 62 sounds, unlimited layering, the alarm, your own recordings, and the meditation tones, binaural and isochronic beats. Premium is offered as a weekly subscription with a 3-day free trial, a yearly subscription, or a one-time lifetime purchase.

How do I delete all my data?

Mixes, recordings and sleep-log entries can be deleted individually inside the App. To remove everything, simply delete the App from your iPhone: all of its data, including recordings and what the widget uses, is removed with it. We keep no copy anywhere, so deletion is permanent. Note that deleting the App does not cancel a subscription - see above.

I found a bug.

Please email us with what you were doing, what happened, and your iPhone model and iOS version. A screenshot or screen recording helps a lot. We read every report.
